Alia Jones

Kiddicare’s Inspirational Mum of the Year

Posted by: ,

Back in June we launched our Inspirational Parents Awards, a search to find three truly inspirational parents. We couldn’t be more proud to announce the winner of our Inspirational Mum of the Year award.

Meet Alia Jones. Alia was nominated by her best friend Dawn Binnington.

“Alia lost her husband Lewis to a brain tumour just two weeks after the birth of their second child. He was just 27. They had just bought their first family home together. Her two year old couldn’t understand where her daddy had gone.

“But, Alia’s turned her experience into a positive one and set up the Halo Children’s Foundation, to support other bereaved children and their families.

“She has drawn on her wonderful inner strength and raised two beautiful daughters single handed. I’m incredibly proud of her.”

The judges said: “Alia has pulled though what some would find impossible. To be strong and selfless enough to go on and set up a charity to support others is simply inspirational.”

Inspirational Parents ambassador Katie Piper “Alia is a true inspiration who has supported not only her family in times of incredible grief, but also others.”

Spokesperson for Kiddicare’s chosen charity Tommy’s “The Halo Foundation is an incredible support to so many grieving familes. What Alia has achieved is amazing.”

Inspirational Parents ambassador Sarah Storey Alia says: “In the wake of losing Lewis, I looked for help and support for families in our position. It was extremely lacking, so I decided to set up a website for other bereaved families to use and used Lewis’ belongings to fund it.

“We started a monthly expressive arts and play session for bereaved children and their families to come to and receive support, counselling and behaviour management/therapy. It continues to run at Uxbridge College Children’s Centre.

“To know that through my own sadness others can benefit from what we’ve created in the Halo Children’s Foundation, makes me feel so much better. One day, I’d like to be able to deliver the support to bereaved families on a national scale.

“Thank you to Dawn – it was so lovely of her to think of me for this award; I was shocked to discover I’d won! As you can imagine as a single mum, I don’t get much of a break so a mini-break with Luxury Family Hotels is a big treat for me. I can’t wait!”
