Jason Collings

Kiddicare’s Inspirational Dad of the Year

Posted by: ,

We’re proud (and a little bit humbled) to announce the winner of our Inspirational Dad of the Year award. Meet Jason Collings and his two children Chloe, aged 3, and Thomas, 11 months. They’re pictured in their garden shortly after the sad loss of their wife and mum, Ali.

Jason was nominated by close family friend Corrine Hale.

“Jason’s world was blown apart when his partner of 18 years, Ali, died suddenly of a rare brain condition on February 4th 2014. She left behind Jason and their two children, Chloe and Thomas broken hearted.

“Ali and Jason had spent more than a decade trying to have a family and were overjoyed when their daughter Chloe was conceived and then followed by the birth of Thomas. Ali was a fantastic mum, doing the very best for her children and everyone’s best friend. When she died she gave a special gift of life and saved three people through the donation of her organs.

“Jason is naturally devastated, but has been truly inspirational in the way he continues to raise Chloe and Thomas. While he’s trying to cope with his own grief he is focussed on ensuring that Chloe and Thomas live a ‘normal’ life while keeping their memory of Ali alive. I am certain she would be proud of him.”

Our judges said:

“For Jason to find the strength to cope with his own grief and help two young children to come to terms with the loss of their mother is just amazing.” Inspirational Parents ambassador Sarah Storey

“This man needs a medal, plain and simple. I am also inspired that his wife was able to save lives in her death – organ donation is a wonderful thing to do for others. They are an amazing family.” Inspirational Parents ambassador Claire Young

Jason says:

“I am totally amazed that I have won a Kiddicare Inspirational Parents Award and feel very humbled that one of our friends thought I was deserving of such an accolade. I would like to say a massive thank you to Corrine – I am truly touched that she feels that I am doing a good job.”
