Tried and tested: Baby Weavers Expedition Back Pac
Initial thoughts: The Baby Weavers Expedition Back Pac arrived using next day delivery, with the added bonus of Kiddicare’s brilliant text service, telling you which hour the delivery will arrive and giving you the option to postpone it if you are going to be out. Once out of the box it was easy to unfold and my initial impression was that it doesn’t take up too much space when folded. This is particularly useful when you are cramming the car full of stuff to go camping. The raincover/sunshade was really easy to slot on top of the carrier, so it was ready to be used within minutes. It is suitable from six months to 18kg, around 4 years, so it should last us ages.
What we liked: I really like the way that this back carrier folds with metal catches inside the back pocket, this is different to carriers we’ve used in the past. The back pocket is a really good size. We fitted a flask of coffee, a water bottle for the toddler, a map, two cloth nappies and a packet of wipes in with no trouble at all. The raincover/sunshade cover really well and has extra toggles to keep the see through sides down if it is a little windy. The shoulder straps are particularly well padded and so are very comfy. Perhaps the best thing is that the carrier feels really sturdy when on the floor. I struggle to lift the toddler onto by back from the floor, but would feel happy to put this on a bench or low wall and then put it on my back.
Things we weren’t so keen on: The hip belt was a little awkward to adjust once the carrier is on, as you can’t just pull the two ends to tighten it. This would be a bit of a pain if you wanted to switch users mid-walk. Also Mckdaddy mentioned that the metal parts of the carrier dug into his lower back. Finally and this is a very minor point, I would have liked to have a choice of colours, as black is a little dull, but then again it’s probably more ‘Dad friendly’ being in a neutral colour.
Overall: This is a really good carrier that we will get tons of use out of. It is excellent value for money at only £39.99. The added features such as the raincover and roomy back pocket make it perfect for walks and the fact that it doesn’t take up too much space is a real bonus. Add to that the excellent delivery service that Kiddicare provide I would certainly recommend this product.
